I have been trying to understand time dilation for the longest time, but I can't seem to wrap my head around it. Can someone dumb it down for me in the easiest way. I know there are geniuses out there. Someone help.

(My english is bla,so sorry) Time dilation is a consequence of Lorent's transformations, and appears when an observer looks at the clock that is moving relative to him and sees that he is slower then when he idles. There we have 2 situations: First: On image we can see Photon's watch that is moving. Second: ON this image we can see Photon's watch that is moving with speed V right then his period is: where is d' way that photon passes between 2 reflections: Factor T' x V distance that watch moved right between 2 reflections. Them, period of the photon's watch that is moving is: Solution for is: Where is Lorent's factor. Obviously when observer looks at the clock that is moving relative to him,he is always slower then when clock isn't moving. im happy if i helped

You know when you are like... waiting for friends, standing in the cold, wind blowing... you call them and the bastards are like "yea man we in the car driving rushing to pick you up" Well you see for does high on weed bastards time goes differently then you who are freezing your ass off... whats like few minutes for them... is actually a fucking hour same principle applies to "waiting for women to get ready"

Ok what andertes posted but with gifs. here is time measured with a light clock, the photon bounces up and down. and here is the same photon when the clock is moving at high velocity, photon moving diagonal and not in a vertical line, thus taking it longer to reach down Here is a great fun app that shows all this in action. http://www.kcvs.ca/site/projects/physics_files/specialRelativity/photonClock/photonClock.swf Anyway you can find all this and more in the net, so i doubt any of us can explain better than the physisists But what helped me understand this a little, was to imagine that spacetime was wine that we put in a barrel. The barrel's maximum capacity is 300.000km/s, for obvious reason. So since the wine is spacetime the more wine i take out in the form of space, the less wine is left there, to be time, thus the slower the time passes. So if i travel at the speed of light (300k) i take all of the barrels wine and theres nothing to make the time with, thus there is no time. Thats why if you are born a photon you dont know what time is, you can go instantly to everywhere you want to go, you can be everywhere anytime. We can calculate how many seconds passed until a photon reach earth from a distant galaxy, in our own reference frame, but things are very different from the photons point of view or anyone travelling close to the speed of light for that matter. From an outsider observer to our universe, a god or whatever, our universe could just as well be one inch and lasted one second! hope this helped.
