Chat won't work... Help please!

So I have been playing this game for a few weeks now. However, I have never been able to send any messages to the other players at all. As you can tell that causes the game to be a LOT harder for me, because a lot of this game is being able to communicate with your allies. I have a Macbook, and I was wondering if that was the problem? But basically when I type into what I think is the "chat box" at the bottom of the screen. Nothing appears. If anyone knows the solution I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

I tried it in Firefox, and it said that I needed to update my silverlight. So after I did that I tried to get into the game, and it still said that I needed to update it?
