02.04.2012 - 20:32 "On the eve of June 28, 1914, the world would change forever. The next four years of Human history would be ones of death, war, and Armageddon. Yet, hope still prevailed. In the end, Versailles determined the fate of the nations who committed these atrocities. In the end, we had survived. In the end, the world was changed forever." -Anonymous My scenario, 1914: Dawn of war, and it's 2 sequels proved the capability of Scenarios early on. Over time, they aged with the rest of my profile, and they now appear absent from Afterwind. This thread is dedicated to the constant work I have done on remaking the scenario. Everything has been redone, and I have taken a very long labor of love in making sure every city is historically accurate for the period, along with every flag, country, and unit. Some countries, such as The Kingdom of Serbia, have one or a few extra territories to balance out the scenario. I am currently 40 or so percent done with the scenario, so a release date has not yet been thought out. It should be out at the latest, the beginning of May (Mai). For the moment, I will keep you updated with every change I make, and new features that are added. I would like your feedback on everything I post here, etc etc. Thank you for reading, and stay in tune to the thread! I promise I will not disappoint you; this will be the best scenario I have ever made. ~Alpha~ Av1 - Countries v1 added (British empire (British isles, colonial (Anglo-Sudan, Arabia, Baluchistan)), French Empire (France proper), German empire, Austro-Hungary, Russian empire (Moscow (south), Novgorod, Tartaria (Western Siberia)), The Ottoman empire, Kingdom of Serbia) Av2 - Flags added/city names changed (Too many to list! about 60% of the cities on the map!, ever country has a Historical flag!) Av3 - Units added/pics added (Source: Freesourceimages, Mutant Chronicles, Wikipedia, LilDgoinin, Learster) Av4 - Historical economies added (Source: Wikipedia, Google, World war one on BBC, "The World war" (Arthur G. Daniels, 1917)). Av5 - Historical populations added: ~The Entente~ BE--422,000,000 FE--94,000,000 RE--171,000,000 IE--36,800,000 Bel.--23,000,000 JE--67,000,000 PE--5,958,000 KoS--2,900,000 Mon.--516,000 Rum.--7,000,000 USA--113,201,027 ttl: 945,886,225 ~Central powers~ GE--78,000,000 A-H--49,500,000 OE--31,580,000 Bul.--4,500,000 ttl: 163,580,000 P.O.N.A.W.: 1,109,466,225 world pop: 1,721,426,000 ~Beta~ Bv1 - Final polishes and preparation for first test game Bv2 - First, Second, and Third tests: Tanks replaced with Artillery, Walls removed, Tunis given to France Bv3 - Expansion work started, final preparation for Public Beta started Bv4 - Public Beta begins

>Anonymous quote >Repetition of phrases >Angsty teen syntax >Every tense imaginable >Implying you didn't just make that up and wrapped quote marks around it to make it seem legit. That's simply my critique of your opening sentence. Releasing alphas of scenarios is lazy in the extreme. It doesn't take that long to make one even if you are renaming units and cities. You don't have to publish it until it's ready. For testing you just make a game, ask some good players and just play it out. If you don't learn all you need to know about the scenario by then then there's no hope for you.

...I took the quote from "The world war" by A.G.D. and it wasn't cited by anyone; actually it was written in with pencil. But it doesn't matter, the book is old and I bought it in Wyoming. The Scenario will take a month because it will look 100% original, unlike most scenarios which just images off of Google. How releasing an Alpha lazy? It's the first development stage! I'm taking my time making this; not spending 6 hours and end up with a poorly made scenaio. This will be going through many tests, to ensure it is as balanced as possible. Iv'e even had someone tell me "1914 would have been great if it was balanced", and that is exactly what I plan on doing. And you cannot test a scenario once and pretend it's perfect; trust me, I tried with the sequel to the original 1914 a long time ago, and nobody played it. I know what I'am doing; Scenarios are my strong point in Afterwind, and there is no need too call out on development time.

How can it possibly take a month to make a scenario that you are only prepared to call an alpha? It's not a game and really it's just extremely hubristic to think it has to go through periods of alpha and beta after you've had a month to work on it. Not only this but scenarios with premade teams are inherently imbalanced because it requires all roles to be filled and all players to stay the course of the game. This never happens. Some rank 3 picks Germany, gets steamrolled and the game is over. Someone picks Russia then leaves in turn 2. Every. Game. It's nice that you're putting this effort in but really you could just shit out a WW1 scenario in a week and it would be just as good as preparing for a month for alpha.

I shit out a ww1 scenario in a week last time, and everyone hated it. So i'm not doing that. And that's my goal; too make it as balanced as possible. That's why it's taking a month. As of now, it is extremely playable. It's "ready" for release, I just need to polish it up, and start testing. Testing takes a while; I ask players to tell me any flaws or imbalances they find, and when they do, I fix them. We have another test, and do the same thing for however many tests it takes.

04.04.2012 - 15:33 THIS IS THE GREEN COMMENT. POST YOUR INPUT ON IT. Hey guys', I need your input on this: In my original 1914 Scenario, and on other World War 1/Great war scenarios (Like Andartes fantastic one), there are D-line walls, replicating the fronts/trenches. Should I add them in this scenario? This scenario, 1914: Dawn of war, is based just as the name says: in 1914. In 1914, the trenches really weren't all dug out yet, so would you guys rather have me not add them for historical accuracy? Or should I add them because every other scenario has them? Please share your thoughts! Remember, YOU get to shape major parts of the scenario like this!

Durrhunter the french did not invented the trench lines of WW1. In fact it was the german that used them first. The german line were much better and in there head here to stay for the longest tiem possible because they had to fight on 2 fronts. The french and english lines were just a copy that they used but in general the german lines were almost always more organized. And well I don't knwo from where you get this information abotu teh first week of the war but well in my opinion the trench lines werent really used before the "course à la mer" the race to teh sea in english i think..

Fun fact: the Maori of New Zealand actually invented trench warfare and very successfully deployed it against the British at the Battle of Ohaeawai (that really is how it's spelt, and I had to copy that obviously hahaha). However, it only really saw large-scale use during the Siege of Sevastopol and even more the American Civil War--especially the Siege of Petersburg which was more of a pitched battle a la WW1 to be fair. As for the question itself: Gardevoir, if you're going for absolute realism, then go for it. But I'm not sure if you can make a fun scenario that way. And you've already dropped several aspects of realism, so who knows? You just have to find something that suits your style but if it ain't fun, people won't play it. You've got to keep that in mind when making a scenario. That's why I find True World War II kinda sucks, as anyone starting on the American continent sees no action for at least 3 rounds, and even then, the amount of action they see is very limited. How boring. But yours has the opposite problem: too much action which leads to a lack of balance.

05.04.2012 - 11:59 THIS IS THE VIOLET COMMENT. POST YOUR INPUT ON IT. Hey guys, new question for ya'! Do we want Artillery? AAs are useless, and I highly doubt the admins would ever implement my Heavy Artillery idea, or at the least customize-able rare units. Artillery was a huge part in World War one, but AAs are useless. So what do you guys think?

I think you should replace tanks with artillery. Granted, it was much more difficult to move around artillery than tanks and in several battles like the Battle of Amiens, the victorious troops outran the artillery and couldn't win a really complete victory. Artillery wasn't fast at all though, unlike Tanks only came in in 1916 (and didn't see large-scale use until the next year) and planes were mostly used just for reconnaissance work until 1917. As I said; if you're aiming for realism, you have to include artillery somehow. But that just makes it useless. You need to find some third way that suits you best. I reckon that replacing AAs with artillery is counter-intuitive, as they don't accurately reflect the power of artillery, and artillery couldn't do anything against planes anyway. AA guns were not developed until the early 1930s. That is, they couldn't locate planes so high up in the sky with any ease, big guns had been around for a while.

Well, if they ever add rare units in the edit portion of scenarios, we can have Tanks and Artillery But for now, i'll replace tanks with Artillery. If I ever make a sequel, I'll replace it with tanks.

05.04.2012 - 19:38 THIS IS THE YELLOW COMMENT. POST YOUR INPUT ON IT. Okay, so we ran into a speedbump here- would you guys rather me balance it towards Historical accuracy? (most likely to be one-sided, Triple Entente would probably win all the time) or should I keep it fun and regularly balanced? (Equal chance for either side to win) Edit: Should mention, every build up to now has been balanced for the latter. I've heard some people say they want it historical, so I thought you guys should decide, since i'm, well, making it for you all and stuff Btw, here's a couple screenies: Austria-Hungary; Soldier unit Constantinople/Crimea Lemberg

06.04.2012 - 18:46 The Public Beta has begun! It will be open from April 6th to April 12th. To lay the scenario, simply type in "1914" into the Scenario search bar, and click on "1914: Dawn of war Public Beta" (It is the PUBLISHED one). The Public Beta is for the community to have a chance and testing it, and reporting anything that needs to be fixed, such as: Country/City names, Units and their descriptions, and Balancing. If anything in the Scenario seems off to you at all, please post it here! I can't balance or fix the scenario unless you report your findings. The Scenario is planned for a final release on April 29th, the 1 year anniversary of the original 1914: Dawn of war. Please spread this thread and the scenario around! Thank you for your support! -Gardy P.S. 2000th post, where's my medal Ivan!
