So, i had this idea while playing Europa Universallis Rome.
What a bout a politics system?
I know its a vague ideam but i do have some kind of list on my mind:
1. Parties (of factions), each with different bonus and malus.
2. The Leader (player) would be able to choose from one of the parties (later we could set some events to change the party of the ruler).
3. Elections, every x turn the country would have a election, and based on the player performance in general (military, taxation and military).
4. Taxes, quite self explanatory, the player would have the options to change both global and local taxes adjusts, this would have an great effect on popularity and economy.
5. Laws, the player would be able to pass, for example, a law that enables forced conscription, or taxes-specific laws, or citizenship (for ancient-based or fantasy maps). Every of these decisions would have a varying impact on popularity, economy, recruitment...
5. Popularity, the index that sums up how much people like him, it would be affected by every aspect of the game and would affect military, election and economic efficiency.
I think thats it. i know it isn´t a great original idea and canbe very well out of the scope of the game itself, but i think it would add some nice depth on the gameplay and immersion.

The problem is the games would be waaay longer, but for casual this would be awesome. Good thinking there!

That´s exactly what i was thinking about, UN kind of have this politics thing, but still, the UN have no real impact since everyone can just nuke him to hell and begin Third World War.
that gives me another ideia, what about some features like nuclear winter or radiation killing pop? that would make people think twice before nuking UN or someone else. D:

I figured that out.
If someone want some chalenge they could set it to 15 minutes each turn, but still, its best suited for 12 or 24 hours.

I'd agree to this for specific scenarios or maps. Or even for casual games it would be awesome.
But for regular AW I would have to disagree. It would make things too complex.

Oh...will you? I´l be very alone if you leave this game, oh so very alone! D:
Anyway, jokes apart, lets see, i think we shouldn't be so radical in our positions:
what if these features be part of some "UN game mode"? or something like that? so if we want a more traditional experience in gaming, we could play the "classic mode" and if we want a more political and less action-packed game we could select the "UN mode".
just an idea for you. (oh, the humanity).

NO, NO UN-BASED AFTERWIND GAME!
Many will leave if this happens and I'm pretty sure Amok and Ivan won't change AW into a UN-styled game.

i am sure most if not all of the ranks 7-12 will quit this game if this is implemented, and we are 90% of the premium players. that will kill this game income, and will lead ivan and amok to stop updating this game for a while.

that´s a awful lot of time...
so you fear if people suddenly starts to play complete UN games, they will play for too much time on the same game because of the restrictions?
is that what you mean?

If the community likes the UN-style gameplay, who are we to say they are wrong? this kind of action-packed gameplay AtWat shows today isn´t the best that the game itself can do (atwar have a lot of potential), i think you have fear fo change.

Because the actual features that the game have do not permitt the UN to have REAL impact on the gameplay, they needed to be political moderators and in the end, can´´t do much when everyone gets crazy. i think politics whould have REAL importance in the gameplay, nto just a "wannabe" theater of geopolitcs. :/

the problem is that each time i play it, i get too much sp and then UN goes rougue to get my sp.
if they implement a sp penalty, un's will stop going rougue and this will increase gameplay.

You don´t get the point:
In fact, as much as i love Atwar for what it is , a overhauled Risk, i recognize that its gameplay is shallow, too simple and action-packed, i think it needs more depth and content, more game-modes, more features...unfortunately it seems that you guys are too fearful of change. :/
