Online status and forums

I was just wondering what my status shows when I'm logged in and on forums but don't have the actual game open. Do I still appear online? Or are you only online when a game window is open?

On the ingame friend list(or other lists) you won't appear online just by being logged into the forums. However if someone opens your profile it will say you're online since you are logged into the account, just without the game itself open.
